Talk the Talk…

Join us as we pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We will cover the “Top 10 Tips” for delivering an effective presentation, review the rules for the “Stellar Stars” Speech Competition, and participate in an interactive exploration of the rich history and enduring legacy of Hogan’s Alley, the heart of Vancouver’s 1st Black Community. The education will be held on January 12, 2025, at Coquitlam Library, City Centre Branch.

Come and explore the rich history and enduring legacy of Hogan’s Alley, the heart of Vancouver’s 1st Black Community. This session will be facilitated by Djaka Blais, Executive Director Hogan’s Alley Society. Through interactive discussions, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the challenges, cultural contributions and ongoing efforts to preserve and revitalize its history.

Whether in academic settings, professional environments, community platforms, or entering a speech competition, JrBAA President Candace Knoll, will deliver the “Top 10 Tips” to help you deliver an effective presentation. In learning these tools, you will gain the confidence to master the art of public speaking and deliver an impactful speech.

The focus of this workshop is to prepare the Grade 11 and 12 contestants to compete in the annual “Stellar Stars” Speech Competition on February 23, 2025. There will be a $2,000.00 scholarship awarded to the competition winner.
