january 18, 2026 - Talk the talk
Based on the POWERtalk International Training Program, Talk The Talk is a one-day education session and workshop. Participants will learn the “Top 10 Tips” of effective presentation delivery as well as review the “Stellar Speech” Competition rules. This year’s workshop will be held at Byrne Creek Community School in Burnaby on Sunday January 18 from 10:00am-5:30pm.
Youth Council members will present interactive modules where participants learn the “Top 10 Tips” of effective presentation delivery. We will also review the “Stellar Speech” Competition rules.
Module topics include platform presence, body language and gestures, vocal effectiveness, talking habits and speech construction, technical and visual aids, and how to bring all of these components together to create an impactful presentation. Participants will be provided lunch and door prizes will be available.

february 6, 2026 - boots to broadway
On Friday February 6th, join JrBAA in partnership with Hogan’s Alley Society for Boots to Broadway, a Black History Month fundraising concert featuring two-time Juno award winner, Lovena Fox, at The Cultch Theatre on Commercial Drive.
Lovena will take the audience on a powerhouse musical journey that showcases her vocal versatility—from the heart of country and soul, to the fire of rock ‘n’ roll and the magic of Broadway. Featuring unforgettable hits by legends like Aretha Franklin, Beyoncé, Patsy Cline, and Tina Turner, along with showstoppers from Porgy and Bess, Evita, Jersey Boys, and more, this high-energy performance is a celebration of music that moves the soul.
february 22, 2026 - stellar stars speech competition
The words and phrases for the “Stellar Stars” Speech Competition are now available. For more information on the competition, visit https://jrbaa.org/stellarstars and review the eligibility and rules.
If you are in Grade 11 or 12 and are interested in participating in the competition, please download the application and consent forms, complete them, have your Parent/Guardian sign and return them to info@jrbaa.org.
Upon receipt we will contact you to select one of the numbered envelopes. It will contain the words or phrase to be used in building your speech.
Save the date for the “Stellar Stars” speech competition, which will be held on Sunday February 22nd.
The competition winner will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
